Amarillo Art Institute
AAI's mission is to inspire, educate, and enrich lives through art.
AAI is housed in the Arts in the Sunset building. It is an independent 501 (c)(3) organization that manages all programming within the facility.
The Amarillo Art Institute is a welcoming space for everyone, fostering creativity and collaboration. As a community art studio and school, we provide a supportive environment where members and students come together to create, learn, and inspire one another. Whether you're pursuing art as a passion or profession, our doors are open to all, offering a place to connect, grow, and explore the world of art.
Open Studio
Our open studio space is a member benefit that allows you to come in and work on personal projects during operating hours. Utilizing open studio includes using AAI equipment (easels, tables, tools, etc), and using the shelves and space along the wall to store minimal supplies. Please see our policy for a full list of rules for open studio.
Clay Studio
The Clay Studio is available during open studio time, with open studio rules. Members have access to wheels, hand-building tools, and glazes, and are able to have pieces fired. Shelves are available to store minimal supplies and are assigned by staff based on need. Clay can also be purchased through the Clay Studio.
Weaving Studio
The Weaving Studio houses dozens of looms and equipment needed for weaving. Looms are rented in 12-week increments. There is a weekly meeting schedule, or members may come in any open studio time outside of the meeting schedule. There is a Weaving 101 class that runs simultaneously with the loom rentals.
Print Making Studio
The print studio includes a variety of printmaking equipment. Currently, open studio hours are Wednesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. and is supervised.
BlindBird Designs
The Glass Studio is owned by Blind Bird Designs. Blind Bird offers classes through the Amarillo Art Institute as well as open studio hours. For more information, visit their website at blindbirddesigns.com.
Supplies
AAI does not provide supplies for members. All supplies used are supplied by the artist. There are exceptions to this when booking a service, if a service is providing the supplies it will specify in the description. AAI supplies are only to be used for these designated services.
